Family law is the area of law that involves cases related to family issues and domestic relations. The branch takes account of problems related to marriages (legitimacy, spousal abuse, surrogacy, adoption, child abduction, etc.), relationship termination (divorce, alimony, property settlements, annulment) and parental duty (child support, child custody, etc.).

A family can face a number of hardships during its span. Minor disputes often end up severe repercussions like divorce. Separation of a person can affect several people who are related to the spouses, especially their children. Divorces usually lead to child support and child custody. Family lawsuits are mostly entwined with each other.
